Nepali New Year
Nepal’s official calendar is called Bikram Sambat and Baishak is the first month of the year. Therefore, Baishak 1st is regarded as the Nepali New Year- also called Navavarsha. The Nepali New year usually falls in mid-April of English calendar and is a public holiday in Nepal. This is the time of the year when Nepalese people make a new resolution.
The Nepali New Year’s celebration consist of dances, parades and reunions. During this time of the year, people in Nepal plan for picnic, tour/travel along with gathering with friends and families with musical/cultural night and food. These activities bring unity among Nepalese community despite linguistic, cultural and historical diversity.
